Wood is a material which various usefulness, because it is workable easily. It has also the unique patterns and distinctive. Among the uses of it are:
• As building material: To create columns, floors, beams, walls, buildings, bridges, railroads, piling and so on.
• As furniture: For packaging in light or heavy materials, and to make tools and holders.
• As the lathe and the toy statues.
• Created as veneer, plywood and boards.
• In addition, it is also used to produce paper, as a raw material in the production of wood alcohol, charcoal, turpentine, and others.
Malaysia is an exporter of timber which is famous in the world. Many types of local wood are high quality. Suitable for building materials or materials for making furniture and other uses. The types of wood commonly used are:
• Heavy-weight hardwoods with density between 800 and 1105 kg/m³:
Balau, Balau Merah, Bitis, Cengal, Giam, Kekatong, Keranji, Merbau, Resak and Tembusu.
• Medium-weight hardwoods with density between 720 and 880 kg/m³:
Kapur, Kasai, Kalat, Keledang, Kempas, Keruing, Kulim, Mata Ulat, Mengkulang, Merpauh, Punah, Rengas, Simpoh and Tualang.
• Light-weight hardwoods with density between 430 and 720 kg/m³:
Bintangor, Durian, Geronggang, Gerutu, Jelutong, Kedondong, Kungkur, Macang, Medang, Melantai, Melunah, Mempisang, Meranti Bakau, Meranti Merah Tua, Meranti Merah Muda, Meranti Putih, Meranti Kuning, Merawan, Mersawa, Nyatoh, Penarahan, Perupok, Pulai, Ramin, Sepetir, Sesendok, Terap and Terentang.
