When I was in primary school, I had always painted concerning the beaches, fishing villages, and fishing boats. I am very interested in drawings about fishermen, maybe due their faces depict worked hard. I felt having kinship with them when I was painting some things related to them. In fact, this theme becomes one of my favorite themes. It is one of my beginnings in terms of art themes.
To me, the fishermen and their coastal environments are unique. It is a sensibility on the sustenance from seas, endless. I am telling about the season as concern for the fishermen in the east-coast of Peninsular Malaysia that is, in the months of November to February the season known as Tengkujuh which strong waves and rough sea is usually going to happen, it throughout this season. Normally, the starting of the rainy season is around mid-November and ends at March in the year afterwards. This monsoon rages over the sea. It keeps some fishermen resting at homes. However, the sand of beaches is still bright; the beaches are gently sloping and widening; waves struck the beaches, splashed water and hit the beaches never stopped; and the coconut trees waving their leaves in the breeze, provide shade and cozy. There are some cottages of fishermen with Atap Rumbia known as "Thatched Roof" really simple. Seen some kids merrily playing on the beach. The scenery was felt very enchanting.

In 1972 when I was 9-year old, for the first time I set feet on beach. The beach is called Pantai Air Tawar. It is the nearest beach from my birthplace Kampung Alor Lintah, about 9km away. At that time, my villagers were 1,000 persons.
Originally, Setiu is a part of the Besut district. On January 1985, Setiu was separated from the district of Besut, and it has become a new district. Besut area is one of seven districts within the State of Terengganu. Kampung Buluh has been renamed to Bandar Permaisuri and has become the administration town for Setiu District. Meanwhile, Kampung Raja is still being as an administrative town for the district of Besut. Jerteh is the largest town in Besut. Distance from Kampung Alor Lintah to Jerteh is about 4km.
Besut is the most northerly district in Terengganu and is a Kelantan border. Besut breadth area is 123,367.8 hectares, or approximately 9.52% than the breadth of Terengganu State. In 1970, the population in Besut was 79,197 persons. Census in 1991, total population in Besut was 118,060 persons. The number increased to around 145,040 persons in 2007. There are several numbers of fishing jetties where active in Besut. Among them are Kuala Besut and Benting Lintang.
